Overview

Once the private hunting grounds of the maharaja, Bandipur is unapologetically wild terrain. Elephants roam in large herds, deer stare at you brazenly and peafowl flit in and out as they deem fit. Nestled at the foothills of the Nilgiris, Bandipur has had a long tryst with tigers. One of the thirty reserves identified across the country to save the tiger and its habitat, it’s also one of the last refuges of the endangered Asiatic wild elephant. The Bandipur Safari Lodge is your way of being a part of this ecological haven.

Experience

We all have a role to play in maintaining the ecological balance. Nothing makes you more aware of how much we take for granted than a visit to the wild. Be prepared to leave an environmental activist, as the wildlife experience is known to touch the deepest recesses of your mind.

The sheer majesty of elephants so aware of their power, the enormity of the forest and its ancient secrets, the unblinking gaur that dares you to try stare him down, and if you’re lucky, a glimpse of a tiger or leopard, arrogance clearly written on their feline features: is a resounding lesson in learning to respect nature. Our guests are taken every evening to the jungle with a trained naturalist for company.

Bird-lovers will not suffer for company. With over two hundred species of birds including peafowl, hornbills, woodpeckers, the Crested Hawk Eagle, wagtails, blue jays, partridges, etc. one can spend hours trying to spot as many of these brightly hued winged creatures as possible.

The premises are filled with herbs, medicinal and ornamental plants. The garden, by itself, inspires the naturalist in you. If ever your curiosity gets ahead of your knowledge, our naturalists are at hand: they’ll clear any doubts you might have. End the day on a peaceful note, with the cicadas taking over the night shift from the birds: the perfect accompaniment to your campfire barbecue dinner.

Season

Though Bandipur is around-the-year tourist destination, summers are the best time for wildlife sightings. March to May being the dry season, the animals come out of hiding and can be spotted by the watering holes. But for bird-watchers, the winter months are a better bet, for November to January, many migratory birds from the North, especially the Himalayas come down south to roost.

Treat yourself to a sumptuous lunch at the Gol Ghar.

3:00 pm - 3:15 pm

Gear up for a ride into the Park with tea/ coffee served at the Reception area with safari briefing.

3:15 pm - 6:15 pm

Our naturalists take you on a wildlife Safari in Vehicle into the Bandipur Tiger Riserve Park, showing & sharing their experiences and information about the jungle and all the animals that live there.

6:15 pm - 7:00 pm

Tea/ coffee served at the pugmark restaurant.

7:30 pm - 8:15 pm

Watch a Wildlife film show at the conference hall.

8:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Bask in the warmth of the campfire, while you dine in the Gol Ghar, exchanging tales of the jungle with the other guests and our staff

All request for cancellation of confirmed booking have to be received through email (Used while booking) or in writing if booked at our office in Bangalore.

10% of the booking amount, if cancelled 15 Days before check in date/time.

50% of the booking amount, if cancelled between 48hours to 14 Days before check in date/time.

No refund for no show & if cancelled less than 48hours before check in date/time.

Post/Preponement Policy:

Postponement / Preponement is free if requested 15 Days before check in date/time (Once postponed /preponed there is no further change or cancellation).

20% of the booking amount, if requested between 7 Days to 14 Days before check in date/time.

50% of the booking amount, if requested within 24hours to 7 Days before check in date/time.

Travel Tips

Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging station available.
Dress for comfort. Do avoid bright colours and stick to muted shades of green, black, grey and brown. The more you meld with the background, the better.
Wear comfortable walking shoes.
Avoid smoking – anything can start a forest fire.
You’ll be spending a lot of time outdoors. Don’t forget your hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, torch, etc.
Avoid plastics. We’re really trying to cut down on plastics.

The jeep ground to a halt and the engine was killed, abruptly leaving us with the lush silence of the forest. An unseen flame-back called. And then we heard it – a branch broken, intermittent noises coming progressively closer, the thud of logs or stones being dislodged, and the crack of six-inch boles being snapped effortlessly.

“Can you hear that, madam?” Basavanna, our naturalist, turned around in his front seat and whispered. I strained my ears, not unlike the spotted deer we had seen some time back. The jungle seemed still, the cicadas having ceased their incessant song for the moment. I wondered what I should be hearing – a warning call, or perhaps some animal making its way

There is a sense of excitement when one sets off on a safari: the nip in the air and the fragrance of a fresh forest waking up to the warm rays of the sun, all tingle the senses. What hidden treasures will the jungle reveal this time? This being our first visit to Bandipur National Park, the anticipation was even more! The jungle is an immersing experience of sights, sounds and smells; there is so much more to a forest than the big cats.
